Some people say why does it have to be gay weddings? It’s just weddings! OK, but sometimes we just want to use the words Gay Wedding! I’m so excited about all the laws changing across the United States! Please contact me for all your gay photography needs! Poprock Photography

Every bride always wants a timeline from me after I get off the floor from laughter I tell them we can make a timeline, but nothing ever goes as planned. EVER. Someone is always late, missing, retrieving missing shoes, it’s always something..
But just so you can get an idea of how my day goes. here is an imaginary timeline..
Of course we will start at 10a, because my brides get married around 4p so there’s plenty of daylight for group photos afterwards, right? Dare to dream, but hey, it’s my imaginary timeline….
10a- I meet brides and bridesmaids in the hotel room/salon where they are getting ready.
11a- go to bar, eat lunch/cocktails with grooms/ groomsmen.
1230p – Go back to girls and stay with them.
2p sneak away and grab some shots of groom getting ready..
230p back with girls / bride gets her dress on/finishing touches
This would be a great time if we do a First Look! In my world the bride and groom always see each other before!!!
ESPECIALLY IF THEY ARE GETTING MARRIED IN THE EVENING.
3p- in car on way to wedding space.
Some advice I love to give my couples. Try to get a good night’s sleep the day before, I know it’s hard tying up loose ends and partying with everyone, but if you can avoid it, there is nothing worse than being green, hungover with bags under your eyes for you wedding day.
Eat protein that day, I see so much bread and fruit in hotel rooms, what the H? Have some turkey sandwiches!!!
And it’s really cute if bridesmaids have matching robes, tshirts or shirt, as cornball as it sounds, if it’s your style, do it!!
When planning your wedding, ask your event planner to have a cooler READY and snacks when the group is hiding out, waiting to be introduced or during photos.. It’s like an afterthought with waiters asking what you want and bringing cocktails later, or groomsmen running off for a beer run duh, have it ready!!
When planning your wedding, always consider daylight savings time!!!
There is always a mad rush for the bar at the end of a ceremony, creating long lines and cranky guest trying to remain polite. Some restaurants are ahead of the game by having trays of cocktails or wine, which works deliciously, but is rare. This weekend’s couple had sealed Mason jars of Margaritas in large galvanized tubs complete with a marker to write your name, reuse the glass during the reception and take home with you!
Talk about brilliant, thoughtful and fun!
Best wishes Dorothy + Karen, loved your wedding style!
Julia + Erik got married at Freedom Park in Charlotte, October 24, 2010. I was only a wedding photography year in, so I couldn’t fully enjoy the best thing about this wedding, because I didn’t realize it was the best thing yet! Hindsight is 20/20, right?
Julia and Erik were out in the crowd before they got married, they were saying hello and hugging everyone, yes.. two and half years later, it still brings tears to my eyes. It was really magical, the love in the air was electric. No other bride has done this, it was amazing to witness. And some people might poo poo the idea but walking down the aisle to get married is magical no matter, if you live together, you are already married, you just saw each other ten minutes ago.. it’s still butterflies and nerves!!
“Ready for girly omg-my-wedding-photographer-was-so-awesome gushiness? Yeah? Good, cos here we go.
First let me just say, I like Tonya. A lot. She’s hilarious, confident, cute, and extremely personable. Southern Belle-ish with a healthy dose of punkrawk. I also like Tonya’s photography a lot – it, too, is hilarious, colorful, poppy. She loves crooked angles, peeling sign paint, pirates, graffiti and bright colors, so her taste and mine align.
But it’s the Loooove and zeal she has for shooting that really makes her special. She gets into a zone and just goes and goes, gets the most cantakerous gramps to smile for el camara, cuts a lame joke to get a real smile (and it works! time after time!), all while showing up at every damn moment of your entire weekend, cute outfit on, camera in hand, smiling and hugging and buying you cocktails and telling you you’re gorgeous.
All for a reasonable price. Effing awesome.”
Krista and Eric were one of my first weddings, they threw a great bash. It was a beautiful October evening, with plenty of booze flowing, good food and a fun crowd. Are all weddings like this? The Vanlandingham is a great mix of southern charm and hospitality. The best perk of the Vanlandingham Estate is the beautiful backdrop, you can take photos from every angle and it is gorgeous. Best wishes on your nuptials!
